My Time Zone: Privacy

My Time Zone is a menu-bar world clock. It keeps your cities, home zone, and settings on your Mac. The app has no account, no analytics and no tracking — it makes no network calls and reports nothing about you, ever.

This website is separate. mytimezone.app uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read — aggregate and anonymised: pages viewed, approximate region, device type. It tells us nothing about what you do inside the app, because the app sends us nothing. Analytics runs on your consent; where other privacy laws ask us to name a legal basis, that is the one. Google Analytics processes this data on servers outside Canada, including the United States, where it is subject to that country's laws, and retention follows Google Analytics' own schedule. My Time Zone is made by Design by Miz, operating from Ontario, Canada. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA. For anything privacy-related, email hello@designbymiz.com.

What stays on your Mac

Everything you configure, including your saved cities, home time zone, and display preferences, is stored locally in the app's own preferences. None of it is sent anywhere.

Licensing is offline (direct-download version only)

If you bought My Time Zone directly (not from the Mac App Store), your license is a signed key that the app verifies entirely on your device. The app does not transmit your license key or any personal data to activate it. There is no activation server and no account to sign in to.

What leaves your Mac (direct-download version only)

The only network activity in the direct build is the optional update check. The app uses Sparkle to ask mytimezone.app whether a newer version exists. That request sends standard request metadata (such as your IP address and user agent) along with the app and operating-system version, and nothing else. It carries no license key and no personal data. You can turn it off in Settings, Updates.

How we use the little we get

We use the update-check metadata only to answer the version check, and purchase data only to fulfil your order. Where laws such as the EU or UK GDPR ask for a legal basis, the update check runs on legitimate interest (and is optional, so you can switch it off), and purchase processing is necessary to complete your order. We do not sell personal information.

Payments

Direct purchases are sold and processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle") as our Merchant of Record. Your payment details go to Paddle, not to us. See Paddle's privacy policy, and the Refund Policy for how refunds work.

Security

The data footprint is minimal by design. Your settings never leave your Mac, licence checks are offline, and card details go straight to Paddle and never touch our systems. The update check travels over HTTPS.

Mac App Store version

The Mac App Store build contains no networking at all: it contacts no server and sends nothing. Its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information we hold (for this app, essentially nothing beyond any email you send us), ask us to correct it, and withdraw consent. Contact hello@designbymiz.com. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
